Sergent Garcia

Sergent Garcia is a nearly unclassifiable French Salsa/Reggae/Reggeton band named after Zorro's fictional nemesis, Sgt. Garcia. A few years ago, my wife and I were in Montreal and we were in the basement of Archambault (One of the best music stores on the planet). I was going nuts with the huge Tango selection and my wife was poking arround at the listening stations and found these guys. I've never met anyone who's heard of them, but everyone is amazed once they hear them. They mix Salsa and Reggae beats with Spanish and French rap for a really cool and super danceable beat. You can check out their super-cool site at sergentcarcia.com and listen to some tracks here:

First, I know Sargente GarcĂa!! They are interesting, yes. Did you know that this band was born after Mano Negra split up? I believe (but I'm not sure) that the guitarist of SG was part of MN... And the singer of Mano Negra is now Manu Chao (ever heard of him?). Great music. For Archambault having a huge TANGO collection, however, I don't agree! I've been aficionada myself, and was quite disappointed when looking for something more than Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla... Have you ever heard of Hector Varela? Francisco Canaro? Unless they made a serious restock, they didn't have those tangueros, but I guess nothing is best that a visit to Buenos-Aires!! *sigh*
