On Saturday, August 5th. the big orchestra (2 violins, viola, cello, bass, piano and accordion/bandoneon) will play a Milonga from 9:45 to 11:45PM at Peavy Plaza. The quartet (violin, guitar, bass, and accordion/bandoneon) will play a mini-milonga from 5:30 to 7:45 PM att the same place. It's all part of the closing festivities of Minnesota Orchestra Sommerfest The Minnesota orchestra will be performing a semi-staged concert performance of Bizet's Carmen, featuring Jenn Baldwin Peden, who was one of the Marias from our 2005 performance of Maria de Buenos Aires.
Here's the schedule:
Come to one or both of these most excelent outdoor milongas! I had hoped that we could play tango CDs between 7:45 and 9:45, but the Minesotra Orchestra wants to pipe the live concert into the plaza at that time. Oh well. Now we have 2 shorter milongas instead of one long one.
How this for an idea: come for the first milonga at 5:30, have dinner and rest up between 7:45 and 9:45, and dance the night away to the sounds of the full orchestra at 9:45. You can never go wrong to ...Have Dinner and Go Dancing with the Mandrágora Tango Orchestra!
