On Saturday, March 24th at 8PM Bob and Rahn will play Bandoneon and Bass with Vocalessence at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. We will be joining them to play a vocal version of Piazzolla's "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" (Cuatro estanciones Porteñas) conducted by the Venezuelan conducting sensation Maria Guinand. Mandrágora plays 3 of these "seasons" in it's large orchestra formation. (A few years ago, when the Orchestra played every 3 months at the Loring Pasta Bar, I arranged a different season for each concerts. Unfortunately, I ran out of steam when Spring came around, and I never got arround to arranging "Primavera Portña") Anyway, this will be my first "real" gig on Bandoneon. I've played with Mandragora may times, but I certainly can't play enough tangos on bandoneon at a professional level to make it though a 3 hour dance. Baby steps, I say. I have the rest of my life to master the Bandoneon. I play the hard stuff on accordion and the fun stuff on bando. At any rate, this should be a fabulous concert.
